2eme Battalion Etranger de Parachutiste - Ba Vi, January 1952

The "ragtag" appearance of 'Les Paras' in Indochina is well illustrated by this figure.

His uniform is a veritable mix of surplus items from the US and UK.

His helmet is a mix of a standard US M1 shell (here fitted with the US late war issue small mesh net and elastic band) and a paratrooper liner (the "A" yokes are tucked up inside the helmet.

He wears a USMC 1941 pattern camouflage top.

The trousers are from the WW2 British issue camouflage windproof uniform, known as "Sausage Skins" to the troops.

His webbing equipment is a mix of American M36 and French TAP Mle 50. He is armed with an US M1 Carbine here fitted with a fixed stock, though folding stock models were widely used.

Not quite visible on his back is a 1st type TAP Mle. 50 musette.

His boots are one of the many patterns of pataugas. These boots are made from a canvas upper and a rubber sole bonded to the upper. Though not waterproof, or very supportive, they were widely liked for their light weight and ability to dry out quickly.
