Overview
There are basically 3 sources for uniforms and equipment worn and used by the French paras during the Second World War. These are French, British and American
French Uniforms - these are outside the period of study for this site.
British Supplied
Following the defeat of France many members of her armed forces eventually managed to evade to the UK. Here they continued to wear their pre-war French uniforms. However, with the establishment of the Free French forces the use of these uniforms declined, with many officers and senior NCO's retaining them for parade or walking out. Re-equipped by the British, the French troops now wore British battledress and were equipped with Britsh weapons and equipment.
